Wilton House

Since 1544 when the buildings and land were granted by Henry VIII to Sir William Herbert, Wilton House has been inextricably linked to the political and artistic circles of England, whilst at the same time providing employment and homes for estate workers. This pattern continues today but, against this traditional background, changes are constantly afoot. Henry, 17th Earl, initiated a major programme of restoration and improvements, a task which the current Earl is continuing to this day, funded by Wilton House Trust. These have included the addition of several new gardens and the complete renovation of the Inigo Jones South Front, including all the state rooms. In 2010 another phase of restoration included the Dining Room and Wyatt Cloisters which received the HHA/Sotheby’s Restoration Award. So whether you come to stroll in the grounds, watch your children let off steam in the adventure playground, or enjoy the art collection in the House, we believe that you are seeing Wilton House in the finest condition it has been for many years.

Wilton Village

Based in the grounds of the former Wilton Carpet Factory, Wilton Village is an evolving destination for shopping, leisure, and local life. A place where independent retailers, everyday essentials, and community favourites come together in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

The Church of St Mary & St Nicholas

The church building of St. Mary and St. Nicholas will of course astound you. Wandering along West Street in Wilton, suddenly a piece of Italy stands before you! But don’t let that overwhelm you – enjoy all it’s got to offer and the truly unique spirit of the place. Whether you visit us as a pilgrim or tourist, whether you are confident in your faith, curious to know more, or just plain sceptical – you will always be welcome in the church.

On the outskirts of Wilton is Salisbury Racecourse, hosting a number of fixtures throughout the season along with hospitality, dining and numerous other events

Parking in Wilton

Forget the stress of expensive city parking. Wilton is proud to offer convenient, free parking right in the centre of town, making it easy to stop off and explore our independent businesses. Market Square: We offer two hours free parking right in the centre of town, perfect for a morning of browsing or a relaxed pub lunch. South Street: For longer visits, such as walking the heritage trail, our South Street car park is free to use all day and is just a short 5 minute stroll into the town centre.

Arriving by Train

The nearest mainline railway station is in Salisbury, which has excellent connections to London, Bristol and the South Coast. From there, Wilton is just a short bus ride away.

Arriving by Bus

The Salisbury Reds bus network operates frequent services between Salisbury and Wilton. Services including the PR3, Red3, and Route 25 run up to every 15 minutes. The journey from Salisbury railway station takes just 10-15 minutes, dropping you right in Wilton's town centre ready to start your day.

Cycling Routes

For the active visitor, cycling from Salisbury to Wilton is a genuinely beautiful experience and a fantastic way to arrive under your own steam. Wilton sits on the National Cycle Network route 24 (NCN24), a well-marked, family-friendly route which connects Salisbury directly to Wilton. It's a gentle, mostly flat ride of around 3 miles that takes you away from the busy main roads, offering peaceful views as you approach the Ancient Capital of Wessex. Top tip: If you're cycling from Salisbury, take the scenic route across the Harnham Water Meadows and the Town Path before joining NCN24. It offers some of the most iconic views in the country before you arrive in Wilton for a well-earned coffee.

Wilton Community Carnival

Held in July every year since 1949, the carnival features a parade through Wilton town centre to Castle Meadow where there's always a huge range of fun and activities to enjoy. The 2026 theme was "Out of this World". You can see our highlights reel by clicking on the image

Minster Street Park

Running alongside the River Wylye, Minster Street park includes two children's play areas, our tennis courts, and a riverside walk through a wildflower area. There's easy access from the park into Wilton Village.

Located a few minutes walk south from the town centre is Bulbridge Park and children's play area

Wishford Rd Recreation Ground

Old St Mary's Churchyard

Enjoy some tranquility in the heart of the town in the Old St Mary's Churchyard on the Market Square. With ancient ruins of the 15th century arches and the remaining 12th century nave and chancel, this is the ideal place for a few quiet moments. The Old Church occasional hosts concerts by local groups.
