Welcome to Wilton: The Ancient Capital of Wessex

Steeped in over two thousand years of history, Wilton invites you to step away from the crowds and discover Wiltshire’s best-kept secret.

Long before neighbouring Salisbury drew its first blueprint, this historic estate town was the beating heart of an Anglo-Saxon kingdom—a rich heritage that still echoes through our timeless streets today.

Whether you are looking to marvel at the breathtaking art and grand architecture of Wilton House, wander through our unexpected 19th-century Italianate Church, or enjoy a relaxed afternoon of independent shopping and dining alongside the tranquil River Wylye, Wilton seamlessly blends majestic history with warm, country-town charm. It is the perfect destination for a rewarding day out or a peaceful base from which to explore the wider Wiltshire landscape.
