Cllr Maria La Femina
Councillor
Biography
Maria moved from London to Wilton in the mid-1980s to continue her career as a secondary school geography teacher, specialising in aspects of physical geography including biogeography, hydrology and climate change.
In more recent years she worked with older and disabled people, assessing them for Disabled Facilities and other grants which allowed them to remain safely in their own homes.
A lifelong wildlife enthusiast, in April 2019 Maria set up the Wilton Wildlife Group (Voluntary and Community Group) which has undertaken conservation work on the nearby downs and completed the wildflower patch in Castle Meadow in partnership with Seeds4Success Youth Group. The Wilton Wildlife Group members sometimes record local species and as a consequence a road verge in Ditchampton was designated a Protected Road Verge by Wiltshire Council.
Maria is passionate about fairness and equality, wanting all residents to have equal access to activities and resources.
